Pedestrian and cyclist detection warning on starting

Using information from the radars 1 fitted on each side of the front bumper, when the vehicle is stationary (with a gear engaged) or travelling at a low speed, the system alerts the driver in the event of a risk of a head-on collision with a pedestrian and/or cyclist to enable him to undertake the appropriate manoeuvres (pressing the brake pedal and/or moving the steering wheel).
WARNING
This function is an additional driving aid.
This function is not intended, under any circumstances, to replace the due care and attention of the driver, who should remain in control of the vehicle at all times.

Location of the radars 1

Ensure that the radar zone is not obstructed (dirt, mud, snow, a badly fitted/attached front number plate), impacted, modified (including paintwork) or hidden by any accessory fitted on the front of the vehicle (on the front bumper, logo, etc.)

Operation

Cyclist and pedestrian detection in zone A

When the vehicle is stationary with a gear engaged, the function warns the driver when there is a risk of collision with a cyclist and/or pedestrian crossing zone A at a speed of between 2 mph (3 km/h) and 3 mph (5 km/h) approximately: the warning light appears on the instrument panel to warn you.

Cyclist detection in zone B

When the vehicle is stationary with a gear engaged or while driving (speed less than approximately 6 mph (10 km/h)), the function warns the driver when a cyclist is stationary or travelling at a speed of less than 6 mph (10 km/h) in the same direction as your vehicle:
  • the warning light on the instrument panel comes on to warn you of this;
  • when a risk of collision is detected, the message "Obstacle" accompanied by a sound alert and the warning light appear on the instrument panel.
Note: the warning function uses information from the radars. In certain situations (traffic jams, tree-lined road, etc.), it may alert any type of object that is in zone A or B.
Tip
This function does not give a warning:
  • if the speed of pedestrians or cyclists in zone A is more than approximately 3 mph (5 km/h);
  • if the speed of cyclists in zone B is greater than approximately 6 mph (10 km/h).

Activation/deactivation

Tip
Depending on the vehicle, depending on the length of time following the last time the engine was stopped, the alerts are reactivated:
  • when the vehicle is unlocked;
or
  • when a door is opened;
or
  • when the engine is restarted.

Activating/deactivating the system from the multimedia screen 2

You can:
  • deactivate the audible collision warning;
  • deactivate the system.
To deactivate or activate the function, refer to the multimedia instructions.
Select "ON" or "OFF".

Activating/deactivating the system from the trip computer 3

You can:
  • deactivate the audible collision warning;
  • deactivate the system.
  • With the vehicle stationary, press the switch 4 as many times as required to reach the  tab or, depending on the vehicle, the  tab;
or
  • press switch 4 and repeatedly press control 5 or 6 to reach the  tab;
  • depending on the vehicle, press switch 7 OK;
  • repeatedly press control 5 or 6 to reach the menu, then press switch 7 OK;
  • repeatedly press control 5 or 6 to reach the "DRIVING ASSIST" menu, then press switch 7 OK.
To deactivate the audible collision warning;
  • press control 5 or 6 repeatedly to reach the "Pedestrian alert sound" menu. Press the 7 OK switch.
To deactivate the system:
  • press control 5 or 6 repeatedly to reach the "Pedestrian detection" menu. Press the 7 OK switch;
  • press the 7 OK switch again to activate or deactivate the function:
    • function activated
    • function deactivated
The warning light appears on the instrument panel when the function is deactivated.

Limitations of system operation

This function does not give a warning:
  • in reverse;
  • when the gear lever is in the P position (on an automatic gearbox) or in neutral (on a manual gearbox) and speed is zero.

Temporary unavailability

When the function is not available, the warning light and the message "Side radars no visibility" appear on the instrument panel.
The system will cease to be available if the system is temporarily disrupted (for example: radar obscured by dirt, mud, snow, etc.). In this case, park the vehicle and switch off the engine. Clean the radar area. When you next start the engine, the warning light and the message go out.
If this is not the case, this may arise from another cause; contact an approved dealer.

Operating faults

If the system detects a fault, the warning light and the message "Check Side radars" appear on the instrument panel. Consult an approved dealer.

Warning

WARNING
This function is an additional driving aid. This function is not under any circumstances intended to replace the due care and attention of the driver, who should at all times be in control of the vehicle.
The system will not display a warning:
  • when the gearbox lever is in neutral or the clutch pedal has been depressed for approximately ten seconds and speed is zero;
  • when the parking brake is activated.
System servicing/repairs
  • In the event of an impact, radar alignment may be changed and its operation may consequently be affected. Deactivate the function and contact an approved dealer.
  • Any work in the area where the radars are located (repairs, replacements, touching up of paintwork, etc.) must be carried out by a qualified professional.
Only an authorised dealer is qualified to service the system.
System disturbance
Some conditions can disturb or damage the operation of the system, such as:
  • complex surroundings (metal bridges, tunnels, roads with barriers at the edge, etc.) ;
  • poor weather conditions (snow, hail, black ice etc.) ;
  • ...
In these conditions, the system may not react or warn the driver inadvertently.
Limitation of the system operation
  • The radar area should be kept clean and free of any modifications in order to ensure the proper operation of the system.
  • Small objects moving close to the vehicle may not be recognised by the system.
  • The vehicle is travelling on a winding road.
To ensure correct operation, the system needs to distinguish the entire obstacle. The system cannot detect:
  • partially visible pedestrians/cyclists;
  • pedestrians less than approximately 90 cm. tall.
Deactivating the function
You must deactivate the function if the radar zone has been damaged (front bumper).
In the event of the system behaving abnormally, deactivate it and contact an authorised dealer.
