Speed limiter

The speed limiter function controls the engine and, depending on the vehicle, the braking system to help you not to exceed a driving speed that you have chosen, known as the limit speed.
WARNING
The speed limiter function does not affect the braking system in any way for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes.

Controls

1.
Change the mode: OFF/speed limiter/cruise control.
2.
Put the function on standby (and store the limit speed) (0).
3.
Recall the stored cruising speed (RES).
4.
Speed limiter activation and speed reduction (SET/-).
5.
Speed limiter activation and increase (SET/+).
6.
Depending on the vehicle, road sign detection activation switch [O].
Tip
If the "OFF" mode is selected before switching off the engine, the "Speed limiter" function will be activated by default the next time the vehicle is started.
Tip
You can link the speed limiter to the "Road sign detection" function DETECTION OF ROAD SIGNS.

Driving

When a limit speed has been set but not yet reached, driving is similar to driving a vehicle without the speed limiter function.
Once you have reached the stored speed, no effort on the accelerator pedal will allow you to exceed the programmed speed except in an emergency (refer to information on "Exceeding the limit speed").

Switching on

Press switch 1 until the warning light appears on the instrument panel. The or warning light appears in grey on the instrument panel. The "Speed limiter ready: SET to activate" message appears on the instrument panel accompanied by dashes to indicate that the speed limiter function is activated and waiting for a limit speed to be stored.
To store the current speed, press switch 4 (SET/-) or 5 (SET/+): the limit speed replaces the dashes and, depending on the vehicle, the or warning light appears in white. The minimum stored speed will be 19 mph (30 km/h). The function can be activated from 0 mph (0 km/h).
Note: the "Speed limiter" function can be activated up to the maximum speed of the vehicle.
WARNING
You must keep your feet near the pedals to be ready to react in an emergency.

Varying the limit speed

The limit speed may be changed by pressing repeatedly or holding down:
  • switch 5 (SET/+) to increase speed;
  • switch 4 (SET/-) to reduce speed.
Note: pressing and holding up or down on control 4 makes it possible to change the speed by successive increments.

Exceeding the limit speed

It is possible to exceed the limit speed at any time. To do this: press the accelerator pedal firmly and fully (beyond the kickdown point). While the speed is being exceeded, the speed limiter flashes red on the instrument panel. Then, release the accelerator pedal: the speed limiter function will return as soon as you reach a speed lower than the memorised speed.

Limited speed cannot be maintained

When driving down a steep slope, the system may not maintain the limit speed: in this case the limit speed flashes in red on the instrument panel and a sound alert sounds at regular intervals to inform you.
WARNING
If the speed limiter is not available (after several attempts to activate), contact an approved dealer.
Tip
Temporarily not available
The system controls acceleration and deceleration of your vehicle using the engine and braking system. The system activates the brakes in order to maintain the set speed, the system applies limited braking. In the event of a steep descent, for example in a mountainous area, you must select a lower gear to benefit from engine braking.
To reduce the load imposed on the braking system and to prevent the brakes from overheating, the speed limiter function may be temporarily interrupted and the "Check Speed Limiter" message may appear. The message disappears when the function becomes available again.
If the message remains, contact an approved dealer.

Putting the function on standby

The speed limiter function is suspended when you press switch 2 (0). The limit speed is stored and displayed in grey on the instrument panel.

Recalling the limit speed

If a speed has been stored, you can recall it by pressing switch 3.
Tip
When the speed limiter is set to standby, pressing switch 4 or 5 reactivates the function without taking into account the stored speed: it is the speed at which the vehicle is moving that is taken into account.

Switching off the function

The speed limiter function is interrupted when you press the switch 1 to deselect the speed limiter. In this case, the speed is no longer stored.
The warning light disappears from the instrument panel to confirm that the function is no longer active.
Tip
To exit the driving assistance, press switch 1 as many times as necessary until you reach OFF. The "Driving assist. deactivated" message is displayed on the instrument panel.
In this case, the next time the engine is started, the "Speed limiter" function will be activated and waiting for a speed limit to be stored.
